The Chaophraya Catfish also known as the ‘Dog eating Catfish’ is a predatory fish native to the Chaophraya and Mekong basins in Thailand.
This member of the Pangasiidae (sharks and catfishes) family of fish predates on small fish, crustaceans and even animal carcasses. A highly
adept predator the Chaophraya catfish has a smooth scale-less body resembling that of a shark with a highly pronounced dorsal fin measuring
upto 40 cm in length protruding from its back. The Chaophraya Catfish also has very pronounced pectoral fins and has a silver colouration
throughout its body. This scaleless catfish with its broad flat head aggressively hunts small fish in the upper layers of the rivers
that it inhabits. The Chaophraya Catfish is present in various fisheries throughout Thailand.
