Bang Pakong river for Giant Freshwater Stingray fishingSpecialist anglers wishing to fish on the record breaking Ban Pakong River in search of Giant Freshwater Stingray will be collected from a Bangkok hotel by a Fishsiam representative and transported to the Ban Pakong River in Chachoengsao province by air-conditioned vehicle.





Whilst fishing on the Ban Pakong River you will be faced with some of the most awe-inspiring scenery and wildlife and a host of sacred Buddhist temples that line its banks. This ever changing tidal river holds possibly the largest freshwater fish on the planet. In its muddy waters lurk prehistoric predators of mythical proportions and a real sense of mystery and unknown.





On arrival at our site on the Ban Pakong the angler(s) will be equipped with all necessary equipment necessary for the capture of the largest freshwater fish on the planet!





Bang Pakong river for Giant Freshwater Stingray fishingFishing on the Ban Pakong River is based from the riverbank with baits being boated out into midstream at distances of 300m+. Using extremely strong leads of 500g+ the baits are then anchored to the riverbed in an attempt to hook one of the large Giant freshwater stingray for which this stretch of the river is now famous.





The fishsiam team has captured numerous Giant freshwater stingray from this record breaking stretch of tidal river to an estimated 220kg/484lb.





Exceptionally heavy tackle of an industrial strength is essential in the capture of Giant freshwater stingray. Whilst fishing for Giant Freshwater stingray anglers will use large two speed multipliers (Shimano TLD) loaded with 100lb Power Pro braided mainline coupled with 150lb class boat rods fitted with roller guides. Large 9/0 Owner hooks are necessary in the capture of Giant freshwater stingray in addition to long 200lb+ wire traces or fluorocarbon hooklength’s. In addition ten metre shock leaders of 150lb fluorocarbon are added to complete the setup.

Battles from this prehistoric predatory species are typically long and protracted affairs lasting some hours and requiring the combined effort of several companions. The sheer size of these fish coupled with the extraordinary power displayed by these predatory giants makes this possibly the ultimate freshwater angling experience!





In the final moments of capture of Giant freshwater stingray from the Ban Pakong River several guides are required to safely secure these giants of the river! With larger specimens sometimes requiring the use of several boat’s to successfully land!





When a large Giant freshwater stingray is brought alongside the boat the team will immediately secure the creatures tail carefully wrapping/binding the deadly barb with a piece of cloth. Other members of the team will carefully secure the fish in a large net attached to the side of the boat in order to safely transport the stingray to the rivers edge.

The utmost care and respect is shown towards these prehistoric predatory giants by our conservation minded team throughout the capture and release process with all fish safely released unharmed after capture after accurate measurements and other scientific data have been recorded.
