Lure Fishing in Thailand at IT Lake Monsters for Monster fish - 03 03 2010

UK angler Dale continued his fishing holiday with a visit to IT Lake Monsters in Ratchaburi fishing for Arapaima and other predatory monster fish.

An early start saw the angler fishing with artificial lures and casting to the many fish showing at various parts of the lake.

Fishing with a light lure fishing outfit with a mixture of Cultiva and Rapala lures the angler patiently worked his lures along the nearside margins of the lake.

After several casts with varying rates of retrieve the angler was soon hooked up with an unseen predatory fish which powered off towards the centre of the lake.

The fish bored deeply down into the lake hugging the bottom tightly as it continued to rip line from the screwed down clutch of the reel.

A fifteen minute battle ensued which saw the angler desperately fighting to regain line back onto the reel.
Several minutes later the continued pressure began to tell on the fish with the powerful runs soon being confined to the nearby shallower water.

With the rod bent into full compression a large swirl appeared two metres away from the bank as a large red tail broke through the surface layers.

Gently coaxing the fish back towards the waiting net saw the large Redtail Catfish make one last attempt for freedom before it was safely brought into the folds of the net.

The Redtail Catfish was estimated to weigh 20kg’s and was released after a few trophy shots were taken.

Dale continued to fish for the rest of the morning adding further Pacu, Redtail Catfish and Asian Redtail Catfish to his tally.

A change over in mid afternoon to deadbait tactics soon resulted in action with another large Redtail Catfish of an estimated 20kg’s.

For the rest of the afternoon Dale continued to catch steadily adding more Redtail Catfish, Alligator Gar and other Catfish species to his haul.

At the end of the days angling Dale had amassed a double figure haul of quality predatory fish topped by some large Redtail Catfish to an estimated 22kg’s.
