The Redtail Catfish is a member of the Pimelodidae (whiskered catfish) family and is found throughout the Amazon and Orinoco basins in South America. This hard fighting catfish species predates on smaller fish, crabs and fruits and reaches weights in the excess of 100 lbs. An extremely distinctive fish with dark brown to black colouration on its back and belly with a white lateral section and brilliant red coloured tail and fins. This Amazonian predator searches out its prey with an impressive collection of whiskers which keenly seek out hidden prey from the murky bottom of the world’s largest and remote river system.
