  Sorubim, Spotted. (Pseudoplatystoma coruscans). Max weight 53.5 kg/117lb 15oz. Omnivorous/ Predatory. The Spotted Sorubim is a shovel-nosed catfish found throughout the Amazon basin and South America. This member of the Pimelodidae (whiskered catfishes) family of fishes is an aggressive predator inhabiting both running and still water. The Spotted Sorubim or ‘Leopard red-tail catfish’ is a highly distinctive fish with striking pale yellow coloured flanks and a mottled spotted colouration on its back. The Spotted Sorubim has a smooth skin without scales with sharp armoured gill covers and bright red fins and tail. This Amazonian predator searches for prey in the murky waters of the Amazon River aided by its highly sensitive barbels located close to its mouth. The Spotted Sorubim is a highly adept predator and has been recently introduced to several commercial fisheries throughout Thailand.
