Chiang Mai Tours Thailand

Wat Doi Suthep

Wat Phra Doi Suthep is probably Chiang Mai's most important cultral and religious sites for visitors, and is certainly one of the most visible. Wat Phra Borommathat Doi Suthep nestles into the side of Doi Suthep about 3,000 feet above sea level amongst some of the most breathtaking and picturesque scenery.

Constructed by King Gue-Na in 1383, the temple houses a large twenty-two metre high copper-plate Chedi that is covered in gold and contains holy relics of the Lord Buddha. In addition to being a key tourism destination, the temple has a considerable cultral and religious importance with Buddhist pilgrims visiting the site all year round. The temple has four chapels with an important golden Buddha image also found at the temple. To enter the temple visitors either walk up a staircase (around 300 steps) or ride in a cable car.

Elephant Safari and rafting

Tourists wishing to sample some of Thailand's rural culture should visit Chiang Mai province in the Northern part of Thailand. Here visitors can meet various hill tribe's such as the Hmong and witness many local cultures and traditions. In addition a visit to the local Elephant show is essential to see Elephants at work and play in a variety of different tasks.

After viewing the Elephant show tourists can ride on a traditional Ox Cart before taking a ride on an Elephant for a short one hour Safari through the nearby jungle. The day ends with a highly relaxing journey down river on an authentic traditional bamboo raft affording the visitors a glimpse of a truly beautiful and wild rural Thailand.
