Fishing Venues in Thailand > Sirikit Dam


Fishing Sirikit Dam, Chiang Mai, ThailandSirikit Dam is a large reservoir situated in Uttaradit province in Northern Thailand. Formerly known as Pha Som Dam it was constructed in 1973 by the damming of the Nan River. The damming of the Nan River created a huge natural reservoir of some 250 square km's which is surrounded by dense Teak forests and lush green jungles.

Sirikit Dam and the surrounding countryside is a place of immense natural beauty and are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna and a diverse range of exotic wildlife.


 

Fishing Sirikit Dam, Chiang Mai, ThailandThe lush jungles surrounding Sirikit Dam are irrigated by a vast network of canals which feed out into the dense green jungles and nearby agricultural areas.

Sirikit Dam is situated 45km's North of Uttaradit City in the Northern provinces and is a truly atmospheric location surrounded by mountainous peaks offering visitors breathtaking views of some of the most stunning scenery in South East Asia.

Submerged root systems line the great lakes banks with sunken forests and wide open bays being home to a wide diversity of native predatory fish species such as Jungle Barb and Giant Snakehead.

Fishing Sirikit Dam, Chiang Mai, ThailandThe banks at Sirikit Dam are dotted with traditional wooden stilted houses belonging to the local fishermen on which ancient nets are hung out to dry.

At various parts of the lake floating fishing rafts are situated offering anglers basic accommodation and acting as a base camp for daily fishing expeditions.
