Carp fishing in Bangkok with TBS Network from Japan

Carp fishing in Bangkok with TBS Network from Japan – 17 09 2009

TBS network from Japan visited Bungsamran Lake in Bangkok in an attempt to film the capture of Giant Siamese Carp and Mekong Catfish.
Making an early start saw the team fishing to a prebaited marginal area with large balls of groundbait.

Large plumes of bubbles were observed to be surfacing over the baited area as the anglers gently lobbed their baits tightly to a nearby fishing platform.
After only ten minutes a high speed take indicated that the carp were in the vicinity seeing the fish powerfully charging out into the centre of the lake.

A short but spirited battle ensued which saw the fish changing direction and attempting to reach the safety of nearby snags.
The Giant Siamese Carp was carefully steered away from the danger area where it was played out in the relative safety of open water.

After several fraught moments at the time of netting the fish was finally brought into the folds of the waiting landing net.
On hoisting the fish onto the unhooking mat it was estimated to weigh 30kg’s before being transferred to a holding pen to assist in filming.

The next run saw Kawata San doing battle with a much larger fish which proceeded to charge around in the centre of the lake.
On this occasion the fish was particularily uncooperative and saw the battle rage on for almost forty minutes.
With the battle almost at an end the fish was brought alongside the platform in readiness for netting.
After netting the front section of the fish it became apparent that another net would be required.
A second net was produced and placed over the tail section of the fish before being lashed together with a towel and hoisted onto the unhooking mat.

The Mekong Catfish was hoisted onto the scales giving a weight of 54kg’s exactly before the anglers posed for trophy shots.

The TBS team led by Mr.Kawata a famous comedian in Japan fished throughout the day capturing numerous Mekong and Striped Catfish to 54kg’s.
In addition to catching the catfish another Giant Siamese Carp was also included in the haul which was estimated to weigh 15kg’s.

At the end of the days angling the Japanese comedy trio had amassed a gigantic fifty fish haul with Mekong Catfish to 30kg’s and Striped Catfish to 12kg’s.
