Filming Giant freshwater stingrays Thailand – 30 03 2015
Another Giant freshwater stingray fishing trip saw the Fishsiam team once again joined by a Japanese TV crew to film Giant freshwater stingrays at the Maeklong River in Thailand.
During the course of the days Filming Giant freshwater stingrays at the Maeklong River the team fished at various locations along the Maeklong River.
In the early part of the day a large Giant freshwater stingray was hooked which took over an hour to land by several members of the team.
On bringing the Giant freshwater stingray to the riverside it was observed to be a large female of 1.8 m’s in width and was estimated to weigh in the excess of 200kg’s.
After releasing the Giant freshwater stingray back into the Maeklong River fishing began again.
With the exception of landing two smallish Bull Sharks in the early part of the afternoon the stingrays remained elusive.
With only an hour left for fishing And filming one of the floats burst into life.
A protracted battle followed lasting well over an hour before another large Giant freshwater stingray was brought to the net.
The Giant freshwater stingray on this occasion was measured at a slightly smaller width and was estimated to weigh 160kg’s.
Both Giant freshwater stingrays were examined by scientists from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok whilst the Japanese TV crew filmed all of the action with several cameras
