Palm Tree Lagoon client Wayne visits the Mae klong River fishing for Giant stingrays and Bull Sharks
Another client from Palm Tree Lagoon who joined us at the Mae klong River this month was Wayne from the UK fishing for the first time at the Mae klong River.
Accompanied by Benny, Wayne was soon fishing a wide section of the Mae klong River with baits placed at various intervals across the river.
With water conditions looking good for a bite, it was not long before the angler hooked his first Giant freshwater stingray.
The Giant freshwater stingray was quickly brought up off the bottom and hauled into the boat for unhooking. The fish was observed to be a small male with a width of 1 m and was estimated to weigh 25kg.
Another bait was soon picked up which saw the angler once again attached to a bigger fish. The rod was pulled into its full curve as the angler bent into the unseen stingray.
A fifteen minute battle followed which saw the stingray clamping onto the bottom creating an unmovable force. After applying more pressure from directly above the fish , the stingray finally released its grip of the riverbed and was brought up onto mid water.
The giant stingray on this occasion was much larger and required the net to safely handle the fish.
The Giant freshwater stingray was observed to be a female with a width of 1.35m and was estimated to weigh in the region of 75-80kg’s.
With still plenty of time left for more action the angler fished for a further few hours landing two more small male stingrays with estimated weights of 30-45kg’s in addition to landing a small Bull shark of 6.5 kg’s.
