Freshwater Stingray fishing in Thailand – 18 02 2013
The final day of their Thailand freshwater stingray fishing holiday saw the Polish anglers fishing one last day at the Maeklong River.
Fishing on a wide section of the Maeklong River the Polish anglers placed baits at various intervals across the tidal river.
With the tide almost at its highest point and fishing conditions looking good the anglers waited patiently for some stingray action.
After only forty minutes one of the floats bobbed slightly before sinking under the water signalling the start of another Giant freshwater stingray battle.
The anglers wound down hard into the stingray causing it to immediately lift off the bottom.
The stingray obviously of a smallish size was soon cranked up through the depths and brought into the boat for unhooking.
On inspection the Giant freshwater stingray was estimated to weigh 25kg’s and was quickly slipped back into the tidal river.
It was not long before one of the other anglers was connected to another Giant freshwater stingray which was soon clamped onto the riverbed.
On this occasion the stingray fishing boat was moved to directly above the stingray and pressure was applied from above.
After several minutes of pressure from above the stingray was finally shifted causing it to emabark on a slow run downstream.
After several minutes the stingray once again went to ground and the process was repeated once again.
With the stingray now in mid water the battle was almost over and the stingray was soon brought alongside the stingray fishing boat and netted.
The Giant freshwater stingray was estimated to weigh 40kg’s and was quickly photographed before being released back into the tidal river.
With still a fair bot of time left for stingray fishing and another stingray left in their three fish limit the anglers fished on and experienced several crushed baits.
With stingrays still in the area the anglers waited patiently and were soon rewarded with one last Giant freshwater stingray whcih was quickly overpowered by the heavy duty stingray fishing equipment.
The Giant freshwater stingray on this occasion was estimated to weigh approximately 30kg’s and was quickly released after photography.
This brought an end to the days stingray fishing at the Maeklong River and signaled an end to the guys Thailand fishing holiday.
Soon the anglers were Bangkok bound in readiness for there flight back to Poland in the early hours.
