Giant Siamese Carp brace Bangkok Thailand – 29 10 2008

Fishsiam pro-guide and local angler Jeab returned to Bungsamran Lake in Bangkok fishing for Giant Siamese Carp.
After previously banking a large 30kg+ Giant Siamese Carp the day before Jeab returned to the same swim which had rewarded him the previous day.
After topping up the already heavily prebaited marginal area Jeab cast his two hookbaits into the productive area.
Jeab fished with 4oz Fox Method Feeders loaded with local groundbait(lam) laced with butter milk and coconut milk flavourings.
Short 3inch hooklinks attached to Owner hooks completed the set-up.
The early morning produced a few small Striped Catfish (Sawai)to 12kg’s in addition to a bonus Mrigal of 2.5kg’s.
The swim on several occasions erupted in a mass of bubbles as carp actively fed on the mountain of bait accumulated from the past few days angling.
Just before midday Jeab’s buoyant hookbait was finally picked up by his intended species. After receiving an extremely fast take Jeab immediately clamped down on the reel.
The unseen carp intent on gaining the sanctuary of the nearby wooden platform was forced to head out into open water.
After regaining control of the rampaging carp Jeab expertly guided the fish into the waiting net.
After allowing the fish a few minutes to recover the fish was hoisted onto the unhooking mat.
The fish was weighed at a weight of 20.5kg’s before being released.
Jeab quickly retied the rigs on both rods and once again topped up the swim with groundbait.
With the rods repositioned in exactly the same spots Jeab waited in anticipation as large carp regularly surfaced over his baited area.
A short time later the left hand rod was away with yet another super fast take. The fish immediately headed for the snags with Jeab frantically trying to retrieve the already grating line from the snags. After a few fraught seconds the fish was dragged from its sanctuary and forced to head out into the centre of the lake.
With the fish now in the centre of the lake, the fight was much less alarming and the fish was played out after a relatively short fifteen minute battle!
The highly distinctive light coloured carp was weighed at 19.4kg’s before being carefully released.
