Maeklong Stingray fishing holiday – 22 12 2013
On arrival at the Maeklong River for the start of his fishing holiday, Terry was soon fishing the first day in the infamous Area 51 section of the river.
The first day of fishing yielded only one small Giant freshwater stingray of an estimated 25kg.
On the second day Terry failed to successfully hook a Giant freshwater stingray and returned to the hotel for a nights rest.
The third day of stingray fishing saw the angler fishing a different section of the river much further downstream than before.
With water conditions looking perfect it wasn’t long before one of the floats burst into life.
On winding down into the unseen Giant freshwater stingray the rod was wrenched down towards the water and battle commenced.
A thirty minute battle followed which saw the angler engaged in an epic battle with the Giant freshwater stingray.
The Giant freshwater stingray was clearly a much larger specimen and was finally tamed after almost 40 minutes.
On netting the stingray its tail was made safe and it was transported to the riverside.
After a few photographs the Giant freshwater stingray was released back into the Maeklong River.
The Giant freshwater stingray was estimated to weigh 140kg-150kg and measured at width of 1.6m’s.
At the end of his Maeklong Stingray fishing holiday the experienced UK angler had fished in total for 4 days catching stingrays on each day except one.
Terry landed 5 fish in total during his trip which saw the river fishing much harder than normal for some unknown reason.
