Thai Mekong Catfish fishing Bangkok

Thai Mekong Catfish fishing Bangkok – 07 01 2011

On the third day of Adrian’s fishing holiday in Thailand the young Indonesian angler visited Bungsamran Lake in Bangkok to fish for Thai Mekong Catfish.
On arrival at the lake Adrian began fishing from the public bank and cast two rods out towards the centre of the lake and the dozens of showing Mekong Catfish.
Adrian began fishing with sliding float set ups fished at mid depth in conjunction with inline feeders packed with locally produced groundbait.
After only a matter of minutes one of the floats fished out in the central part of the lake disappeared and line began to stream from the anglers reel.
On winding into the Mekong Catfish the rod was pulled into an aggressive curve as the Mekong Catfish responded with a series of unstoppable charges towards the far bank!
A ten minute battle followed which saw the young Indonesian angler struggling to keep the Mekong Catfish under control as it powerfully charged around the central part of the lake.
Finally the angler was able to bring the Mekong Catfish within netting range where it was scooped into the net on the first attempt.
After hoisting the Mekong Catfish onto the mat the monster fish was estimated to weigh 20 kg’s before being released after few quick trophy shots.
The Mekong Catfish seemed to be stacked up in front of the young angler in a large group regularily crashing out in the central part of the lake.
Further casts made amongst the many showing Mekong Catfish produced more hard fighting Mekong Catfish and Striped Catfish which ranged between 15-25kg’s with each monster fish fighting every inch to the net!
After a short break for refreshments around midday Adrian resumed fishing for the Mekong Catfish and once again began to catch more Mekong Catfish and Striped Catfish.
The young Indonesian angler fished right through until 5pm catching further Mekong and Striped Catfish to an estimated 30 kg’s.
At the end of the days highly prolific Mekong Catfish fishing at Bungsamran Lake Adrian had succeeded in amassing a gigantic twenty five fish haul consisting of Mekong Catfish to 30 kg’s and Striped Catfish to 12 kg’s.
