Thailand fishing holiday in Bangkok. – 24 11 2010
UK angler Dave finished his Thailand fishing holiday with a visit to Bungsamran Lake fishing for Giant Mekong Catfish.
Fishing from the public bank the UK angler cast out large balls of locally produced groundbait towards the numerous fish showing out in the lake.
Several minutes later one of the sliding bungs slipped under the surface as a Mekong Catfish moved away with the bait.
The Mekong Catfish put up a spirited fight as the angler played it back towards the bank making several powerful runs back towards the centre of the lake.
After a few more minutes the Mekong Catfish was brought to the waiting landing net and scooped up onto the fishing platform.
The Mekong Catfish was estimated to weigh 20kg’s and was released after a few trophy shots.
Dave fished extremely hard throughout the day and landed a succession of Mekong Catfish and Striped Catfish throughout the mornings fishing.
After a short break at lunch the UK angler resumed fishing and was soon latched onto another Mekong Catfish.
The Mekong Catfish on this occasion was slightly larger than the catfish that he had caught earlier in the day and caused the angler to apply extreme side strain in order to keep the Mekong Catfish from entering the submerged snags.
After playing the Mekong Catfish for over ten minutes it was finally brought alongside the fishing platform where it was expertly netted and hoisted onto the fishing platform.
The Mekong Catfish on this occasion was estimated to weigh 30kg’s and was released after photography.
At the end of the day’s fishing in Bungsamran Lake Bangkok Dave had amassed a double figure haul consisting of Mekong Catfish to 30kg’s with several bonus Striped Catfish.
